News11/19/03 New software for BWIt seems like the BWChart adventure has been good incentive for other developers to write their own BW tools and share them with the public. Everyone will probably agree that this is a good sign of vitality of the BW community. Among the projects going on, I have noticed two little tools that in my opinion are definitely worth a try. The first one is called BWScanner by TravelToAiur. This is a real anti-maphack program that works on the same principles than BWSentinel but in a much more convenient way. All you gotta do is run the client, connect to the BWScanner server and tell him which player you're about to game with. The other player does the same and you're all set. Now, if any of the players starts a maphack on his machine, the other player will receive a bnet message to alert him. Same thing if one of the players terminates BWScanner before the end of the game. I tried it and it worked fine. The tool is a bit young so there might still be a few issues but if more player start to use it and give constructive feedback, I'm sure this could be THE solution to hacking. Good job TravelToAiur! More info on BWScanner at bwscanner.isgsa.org/ The second project is called LMRB which stands for LordMartin Replay Browser. Walking in the footsteps of BWChart, LMRB goes on step further in replay browsing using a powerful search engine. Complex searches can be created using "condition groups" stored in files. For example, you can search all replays where one zerg player makes a 9 pool. I can already hear you guys say: "oh but can we search for replays where player1 select a unit of player2 that is under fog?". Well, you'll have to ask LordMartin about that. Right now, LMRB is a bit difficult to use and lacks default settings for most things, but considering the work that was done so far, I'm sure it will be easy for to fix.
